On this episode of I Am All In, Scott Patterson is riled up about Max Medina rubbing Lorelai Gilmore’s arm too much in the episode “Cinnamon’s Wake,” but his producer Amy thinks Max really likes her and is just bold. They have quite a debate about it because Scott is “fired up!” Then he sits down with Ted Rooney to hear about how he got the part of Morey Dell, his surprising, non-acting connection to Sally Struthers, and why he likes to give his acting students scenes from Gilmore Girls. Plus, their favorite lines, obscure pop culture references, favorite moments on set, and so much more.
Scott and Amy can’t agree on Max’s motivations in this episode. Scott maintains that Max is “a master manipulator” whose constant rubbing of Lorelai’s arm and holding her hand “was making me lose my mind.” Amy is “Team Max” at this point, saying he’s just “got game.” But Scott thinks he’s just thinking of himself, not really caring about Lorelai and certainly not giving a thought to how difficult it will make things for Rory. “You must think that you’re pretty hot stuff to disregard your career, your unwritten code of ethics, your student’s future….he just wanted to rub, rub, rub,” Scott says. When he asks Ted how he feels about Max, Ted unconsciously echoes Scott: “I don’t trust him….Lorelai’s feeling the romance of potential true love, but I don’t think he’s thinking that.” They laughingly decide that if Luke and Morey had seen Max rubbing on Lorelai’s elbow at the diner, they would have destroyed his Mustang with crowbars.
Scott asks how Ted got the part, and he says it was a really difficult audition process: “I walked into the trailer on the Warner Brothers lot and they laughed….I did nothing!” He says they were just looking for someone to contrast Sally Struthers, “and what a contrast.” He was a little starstruck by Sally, of course, but says when he first spoke to her, he mentioned Portland Oregon, where they both grew up. “She did a little double take and said, ‘Are you Ed Rooney’s son?’ My dad was one of her favorite teachers in high school….her reaction was priceless,” he laughs. One of his favorite memories was when his father visited the set and got to hang out with Sally and laugh and take pictures: “What a happy thing.” Scott decides to send him some coffee after asking him who he thinks Rory’s baby daddy is: “I don’t even want to comment. I don’t approve!” Hear them all break down the characters, storylines, and best acting moments of “Cinnamon’s Wake” on this episode of I Am All In.
